Trialware

Earlier versions of MKVtools (aka MoKgVm2DVD) were freeware (and they still are).  MKVtools, versions 2.0 and later have full functionality with two exceptions:

            1) A “nag” window will appear every time you start a job.
            2) You may only run 1 job at a time.

These limitations will disappear if you register the software, which will cost you a total of $4.99, the price of a Big Mac dinner around here.  Hopefully you will consider the usefulness of this software to be worth the price of a meal at McDonald's :-).

With these relatively mild limitations you’ll have plenty of time to thoroughly test MKVtools before you decide to support it’s development.  Bugs still exist which may or may not get fixed and there are known issues.  You should probably consider this software as being sold "as is", so test thoroughly to see if you think you’re getting your moneys worth before registering.

If you decide to register, download the software using the link below, and then follow the registration instructions found here.

Current Version

Note: Download manager users have had problems downloading from this web site so you may want to turn yours off.

MKVtools 2.3.1
MKVtools is now intel only.  Sorry.  It has been tested on a MacBook Pro and a Mac Pro running Leopard (Mac OSX 10.5.x) with no known issues.  Your mileage will definitely vary if you’re using an older system.  This is another reason to, as mentioned above, make sure that MKVtools does what you want it to before you decide to register.

Here is a hotfile.com link if you have problems downloading via the above link. Just press the "Free" button and follow the instructions.

Earlier Versions

If you are having difficulties running the current version of MKVtools, try these earlier versions which should be more capable of running on older systems.

MKVtools 2.2.6
This version of MKVtools has been tested on a MacBook Pro and a Mac Pro running Leopard (Mac OSX 10.5.x) and Snow Leopard (Mac OSX 10.6.x) with no known issues.  It should also run on older systems but I can no longer test this, so there are no guarantees.  This is another reason to, as mentioned above, make sure that MKVtools does what you want it to before you decide to register.

MKVtools 2.1.1
now updated for Mac OS X 10.6.x (Snow Leopard) and should also run on Mac OS X 10.5.x though there has only been limited testing. Uses an older version of mencoder which may have better luck opening troublesome videos. WARNING: Mencoder appears to have an issue with Power PC computers when trying to set the aac audio to low complexity, so mp4 encoding might not work for those users. Other functionality seems to be OK.

MoKgVm2DVD 1.0.2
No registration required. Only converts to .avi files. Has issues with Mac OS X 10.5. The version of Mkvextract used is 2.0.0, which might not work on systems earlier than 10.4, so you might have trouble with extracting .mkv tracks if you are using 10.2 or 10.3.

Beta Software

If MKVtools doesn't quite do what you want it to, you can try the latest beta of the software found here. Please help bring the beta software into general release by sending feedback to: emmgunnbeta@gmail.com
