Batch Unpacker

Batch Unpacker is an OS X application that checks for, and if necessary, unpacks the bitstreams of AVI video files. This relatively quick process can very often cure a "stuttering" problem that can occur when AVI video files with packed bitstreams are played on DivX enabled DVD players. This stuttering can be observed as a jerkiness when the camera pans in the movie.

In addition, the latest version of Batch Unpacker is now called Batch Unpacker Plus because additional functionality has been added:

  1. Batch Unpacker Plus will now allow you to change the pixel aspect ratio of the processed video file(s). Useful if your video aspect ratio isn't properly displayed by your dvd player
  2. Batch Unpacker Plus will now display information about the video files.

Whenever I download a video from the internet, I just drop the file into Batch Unpacker to quickly check for and fix unpacked bitstreams before I burn it to a CD.

Features

  • Quickly checks for packed bitstreams and then if needed, starts to unpack bitstreams.
  • Change a video's pixel aspect ratio
  • Display encoding information about the video
  • Quick processing requires no re-encoding of the video.
  • Intuitive drag and drop operation.
  • Drag and drop multiple files for easy batch operation.

System Requirements

Batch Unpacker is an applescript studio application and should run on sytems 10.2 and later, though no testing has been done on systems other than 10.5.

To run this application, you need to have the mono framework installed on your computer. The latest stable framework can be found here. Installation is as straight forward as installing most Mac applications.
